Wanted to share my birth story with Owen! I had such a positive and beautiful birth that I truly enjoyed every part of it.
Owen was born 39w5days (5 days later than my first so I was starting to feel frustrated with what I had expected). Went to bed Thursday evening in tears so ready for baby to come and tried to relax with a hot shower. Woke up 3 am the next morning with my first contraction & stayed up for a few minutes to see if they would keep going. Sure enough it did. So I watched a movie to time as my first birth went pretty quick I had to keep an eye on it.
5:30am I tried to go back to bed and that only lasted till 6am when I couldn’t sleep through the contractions any longer.
7am we were getting our last things packed and calling my mom to come pick up Tucker.
8am Tucker was picked up and Alex started to help me through contractions. It felt best for me to lean over my exercise ball while Alex did some counter pressure on my lower back.
9am called into labor and delivery letting them know I’d be in soon. Started up some worship music and cleaned my house and snacked as I could.
9:30am I decided to hop in the shower to relax and try to be at home as long as possible. Contractions started to pick up and get pretty intense. I suddenly just KNEW it was time to go in.
Ina Mays guide to childbirth I took some advice from: making low notes helps keep your body relaxed and open. Speaking phrases to myself through the wave of each contraction such as “open & safe” or “your body knows what to do” was huge.
Labor is truly taking your body to its limits and mind control is HUGE to being able to stay in control.
I felt so present through my labor & it was absolutely beautiful. I felt the closeness of God and the words singing in the background brought me to tears in true awe of Him.
10:15amWe were in the car and on the way to the hospital 20 minutes away. With contractions 5-7 minutes apart.
Checking in at the front desk with contractions suddenly 3 minutes apart... was quite the experience haha.
Walked to our triage room and the nurse watched like 2 contractions and checked my dilation at 8cm with my water about to break and said nope I’m getting you straight to your delivery room (thank GOD).
Got to our room at like 10:50am. Contractions were very close together and they wanted to get a read on baby’s heartbeat, but I asked to not be confined to sitting and they let me listen to what my body needed and got readings while I leaned on the bed.
They rushed around behind getting everything set and I just focused in on speaking truths over me that I was safe & sang through my contractions God’s goodness.
My midwife was close by and came in praising how well I was in control. Hearing that made me feel so strong and brave ready to bring my boy into the world.
She offered to break my water as it was the only thing holding baby in and I said I was a bit scared to have that done but whatever she thought was best. I was most fearful for my water to break as I didn't enjoy that feeling with my first delivery. But as soon as I got my mind in gear that I was safe my body did it's thing and my water broke on its own. And sure enough Owen was born immediately after at 11:10am.
He was a healthy boy at 8lbs 4oz and 21.5inches.
